Terms of Service
Effective September 27, 2026
What this is
Fieldbook is a private self-reflection tool operated by Vana Lab LLC. By using it, you're agreeing to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
We've tried to write these in plain language. Plain doesn't mean unenforceable — these are the actual terms.
Who can use it
You need to be at least 13 years old. If you're between 13 and 17, you should have your parent or guardian's permission to use Fieldbook, and by using it you confirm that you do.
You need to give an accurate birthdate when asked. We only keep the age range, not the date, but the answer needs to be honest.
Access to Fieldbook requires an invite code.
Your account
One account per person. You're responsible for the email address associated with it — anyone who can read your email can request a sign-in link and get into your Fieldbook. Keep your email secure.
Let us know at fieldbook@vanalab.com if you think someone else has accessed your account.
What you write is yours
You own what you write in Fieldbook. We don't claim any ownership of it.
You give us permission to store your content, transmit it between your browser and our systems, process it as needed to provide and improve Fieldbook's features, and display it back to you. This permission exists only so the service can function — it's not a license for us to publish, sell, or commercialize what you write.
One limit we're committing to: we will not sell your content.
If you delete your content or your account, this permission ends with it.
What Fieldbook is not
Fieldbook is not therapy, counseling, medical care, or mental health treatment. It's a notebook that helps you organize your own observations. It doesn't diagnose anything, doesn't give medical or psychological advice, and is not a substitute for a professional.
Fieldbook is not monitored. Nothing you write is seen by anyone, and nothing triggers an alert. If you're in crisis, contact emergency services or a crisis line — see fieldbook.vanalab.com/crisis-support.
Fieldbook is not career, financial, or legal advice. It can help you notice patterns in what you've written. What you conclude and what you do about it are yours.
Fair use
Please don't:
- Use someone else's account, or let someone else use yours
- Try to access anyone else's data
- Attempt to break, overload, probe, or reverse-engineer the service
- Use automated tools to create accounts or extract data
- Use Fieldbook to store content that's illegal, or that infringes someone else's rights
- Share or resell invite codes commercially
We may suspend or close accounts that do these things.
Cost
Access to Fieldbook requires an invite code. A code may be given to you at no cost or included with something you've paid for from Vana Lab; any price is shown to you where you get the code, before you pay. There are no charges inside Fieldbook. If we introduce charges or usage limits inside Fieldbook, we'll tell you before they apply to you.
We may also tell you about other Vana Lab programs and services within the app.
Changes to Fieldbook
Fieldbook is actively being developed. We may add, change, or remove features; change how the service works; and introduce new capabilities, including ones that process your content in ways current features don't. We'll describe what Fieldbook does with your content in the Privacy Policy, and we'll notify you before material changes to that take effect.
Availability
Fieldbook is still being developed and changes often. Things may break, features may change, and the service may be unavailable at times. We'll do our best to give notice before significant changes, and we're not able to guarantee uptime.
Keep your own copy. Settings → Download my data, any time. We encourage you to do this periodically. If something goes wrong on our end, your export is your backup.
If we ever discontinue Fieldbook, we'll give you notice by email so you can download your record.
Ending it
You can delete your account any time in Settings. It's immediate and permanent — download your data first if you want to keep it.
We may close your account if you break these terms, or if we discontinue the service.
The legal parts
No warranties. Fieldbook is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will never be lost.
Limitation of liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Vana Lab LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or lost data, arising from your use of Fieldbook. Our total liability for any claim relating to Fieldbook will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred dollars.
Some jurisdictions don't allow these limitations, so parts of this may not apply to you.
Indemnity. You agree to indemnify Vana Lab LLC against claims arising from your misuse of Fieldbook or your violation of these terms.
Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
Resolving disputes. If you have a dispute with us, please email fieldbook@vanalab.com first — we'd rather sort it out directly. Both of us agree to try to resolve any dispute informally for at least 30 days before starting a formal proceeding.
If that doesn't resolve it, disputes will be settled by binding arbitration under the Commercial Arbitration Rules of the American Arbitration Association and, where applicable, its Supplementary Procedures for Consumer Related Disputes. You understand that without this provision, you would have the right to sue in court and have a jury trial. Arbitration will take place in Kings County, New York, or may be conducted by phone, online, or on documents.
Arbitration is limited to the dispute between you and us individually. To the fullest extent permitted by law, disputes may not be arbitrated on a class-action basis or brought in a representative capacity.
These exceptions are not subject to arbitration: disputes about intellectual property rights, claims of unauthorized access or invasion of privacy, claims for injunctive relief, and claims that may be brought in small claims court. If a dispute proceeds in court instead of arbitration, it will be brought in the state or federal courts in Kings County, New York, and you consent to that jurisdiction.
Nothing in this section limits any rights you have that cannot be waived under applicable law, including rights under New York's Child Data Protection Act and Washington's My Health My Data Act.
Changes to these terms. We may update these terms. For material changes, we'll notify you (for example, by email or in the app) before they take effect. Continuing to use Fieldbook after that means you accept the updated terms.
Everything else. If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest still applies. Our not enforcing something doesn't waive our right to enforce it later. These terms, plus the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between us about Fieldbook.
